A Moldovan court has sentenced the Bashkan of Gagauzia Eugenia Gutsul to seven years in a semi-closed prison for complicity in illegal party financing. This decision was made on August 5 by the Buiucani sector court in Chisinau, reports newsmaker.md.
Moldova's Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office earlier referred the cases against Eugenia Gutsul to the court in April 2024. According to the prosecutor's office, Gutsul, working as a secretary in the unconstitutional party "Shor", systematically imported money from Russia into Moldova from 2019 to 2022.
She was also charged with coordinating the activities of some party offices and "knowingly receiving money from an organized criminal group" to finance the party's activities.
