Lithuanian Prosecutor General: Drone Flown In From Belarus Was Carrying Explosives

Lithuanian army specialists successfully disarmed it.

The drone, which flew from Belarus and fell in Lithuania, was carrying two kilograms of explosives. This was stated by Lithuanian Prosecutor General Nida Grunskene at a press conference on August 5, reports LRT.

Nida Grunskene noted that the main version remains the same - the drone that flew into Lithuania and subsequently fell at the Gaizhunai shooting range is a disoriented Russian drone.

"According to the available data, we can assume that it is a Gerbera," the prosecutor general said.

Grunskene said that after examining the downed drone, it was determined that it was carrying an explosive charge, which Lithuanian army specialists successfully defused at the scene.

Minister of National Defense Dovile Šakalene stressed that while the investigation is not completed, no versions are discarded.

The defense minister said Lithuania will address the NATO secretary general about the incidents.

"We will ask for the deployment of additional forces on our territory, even if they are experimental, and also give them [NATO] the opportunity to train how to act in changing conditions," the minister said.

We will recall that on July 28, Lithuanian police reported an unidentified type of unmanned aerial vehicle flying into Lithuania from Belarus. According to the National Crisis Management Center (NCMC), the drone was spotted at an altitude of about 200 meters, last seen near Vilnius.

Police deployed all forces and on August 1, the device was found on the territory of the training ground in Jonava district - almost in the center of the country near Kaunas.

Analogous case was recorded on July 10. Then an unmanned aerial vehicle "Gerbera", flying from Belarus, violated the airspace of Lithuania. According to the services, the drone did not pose a threat. The army is investigating the drone that violated the country's airspace.
