Bloomberg: Putin Plans To Propose 'air Truce' In Ukraine

To avoid Trump's sanctions.

The Kremlin is considering making concessions to US President Donald Trump by offering an "air truce" with Ukraine to avoid new sanctions after Trump's ultimatum expires. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing knowledgeable sources. At the same time, Moscow plans to continue its military aggression against the neighboring state and does not intend to stop hostilities completely.

According to the agency's interlocutors, the upcoming visit of US Special Representative Steve Whitkoff to Russia opens a belated window of opportunity for Moscow to reach any agreements with Trump, albeit with minimal chances of success. One source said that a suspension of Russian airstrikes using missiles and drones could be considered as a de-escalation gesture - provided Ukraine also agrees to such a move. However, Vladimir Putin is not ready to discuss a full-fledged ceasefire, believing, according to the agency, that Russian forces retain the offensive initiative and that the objectives of the "NWO" will be achieved.

It remains unclear whether Moscow's potential offer would be accompanied by conditions that would make it unacceptable to Ukraine and its Western allies, Bloomberg notes.

"Trump needs some sort of 'gift' - a concession from Russia. An air truce could be such a gesture," Sergei Markov, a political scientist close to the Kremlin, commented on the situation in a conversation with Bloomberg.

Trump said earlier that Steve Whitkoff will arrive in Russia on Wednesday, August 6. This will be his fifth visit to the country since the beginning of the year. The Kremlin does not rule out that the trip may include a meeting between Whitkoff and Putin.

In late July, the US president threatened to impose 100 percent duties on goods from countries that buy Russian oil and other goods from August 8 if Moscow does not stop the hostilities against Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Reuters sources say Trump's ultimatum has not changed the Russian leadership's intentions. According to them, Vladimir Putin still aims to seize the four Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, which were declared part of Russia after pseudo-referendums in the fall of 2022. The Russian president, according to the agency's interlocutors, is confident that the Russian army is winning on the battlefield and does not believe in the effectiveness of new sanctions.

In addition, sources close to the Kremlin told Reuters that Russian generals assured Putin that the Ukrainian defense line would soon be breached. According to the military commanders, the Russian army will allegedly need two to three months to achieve this goal.
