Russian Billionaire Kerimov's Superyacht "Amadeus" Is Being Sold In The U.S.

Russian Billionaire Kerimov's Superyacht "Amadeus" Is Being Sold In The U.S.

The vessel was put up for auction with a starting bid of $10 million dollars.

A vessel over 100 meters long, previously owned by the Russian elite, was put up for auction in America. It was arrested at the request of the US authorities back in 2022. After lengthy court procedures to sell the object allowed - the auction will begin in September.

According to "Radio Liberty", the U.S. authorities put up for closed auction superyacht, which is associated with Russian billionaire Suleyman Kerimov. We are talking about a luxury vessel called "Amadea", the initial bid for which will be 10 million dollars. The auction, according to the published terms, should take place in September.

The yacht, which is 106 meters long, was detained back in April 2022 in Fiji. According to the American version, its real owner is Kerimov, who was sanctioned due to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The billionaire himself denied his involvement in the ship.

Official documents listed the owner of the Amadea as Eduard Khudainatov, former head of Rosneft, who does not fall under the restrictions. However, the U.S. court recognized that Khudainatov only nominally owned the ship, acting as a front man.

At the time of preparation for the sale of the yacht is in the port of San Diego, its maintenance costs the federal budget monthly in 740 thousand dollars, because of which the government applied for permission for its early sale. In March, a court authorized the Marshals Service to dispose of the Amadea, and the official bidding permit was issued July 1.

Applications from potential buyers will be accepted until Sept. 5, with the envelopes themselves to be opened on the 10th. The vessel will be sold in an "as is and where is" format - with no warranties or proof of serviceability.

The Marshals Service noted that the agency retains the right to cancel the auction at any time without notice. The deal would be the first time such a large-scale asset linked to Russian oligarchs has been sold, following seizures under U.S. sanctions policy because of the war in Ukraine.
