Rubio Spoke About Whitkoff's Call After His Meeting With Putin

The U.S. presidential envoy communicated with the Russian dictator for about three hours.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he spoke by phone "a few minutes ago" with U.S. presidential envoy Steve Whitkoff following his visit to Russia and talks with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

"Hopefully there will be some statements soon, maybe positive, maybe not," he said.

Rubio said the United States will soon make a decision on sanctions against Russia.

The meeting between Putin and Whitkoff took place on the afternoon of August 6 and lasted about three hours. The envoy flew to Moscow in the morning - a few days before the deadline for Donald Trump's ultimatum.
