The U.S. president declared an "exchange of territory."
US President Donald Trump has informed European allies that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is open to peace talks, but on the condition that they include the issue of "territory swaps." This is according to Bloomberg, citing knowledgeable sources.
That is, Trump said yesterday that there is a "very good chance" of meeting with Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky in the near future.
According to several knowledgeable sources, during a phone call with European leaders yesterday, Trump spoke favorably about the possibility of a ceasefire in Ukraine. He also suggested that Putin was open to starting peace talks, provided that a land swap was discussed, among other things, the sources said.
What exactly is meant by "land swap" was not specified. However, in this context, Bloomberg recalls that Putin has previously laid claim to the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, as well as the eastern and southern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson.
"The U.S. has previously proposed recognizing Crimea as Russian as part of any agreement and effectively ceding control over parts of other Ukrainian regions that Russia occupies. As part of these previous proposals, control over the territories of Zaporizhzhya and Kherson region was to be returned to Ukraine," the authors of the publication wrote, recalling the proposals from back in the spring.
