The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan will sign a peace agreement on Friday, August 8. This will take place during their visit to the White House.
U.S. President Donald Trump wrote in Truth Social.
Trump said he is looking forward to receiving Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the White House. He said the meeting will take place as part of the Historic Peace Summit.
"These two nations have been at war for many years, resulting in the deaths of thousands of people. Many leaders have tried to end this war, but to no avail - up until this moment, thanks to TRUMP," Trump said.
He emphasized that his administration has been engaging with both sides of the conflict for some time. The U.S. president said Aliyev and Pashinyan will join him for the official signing ceremony of the peace agreement.
In addition, Trump noted that the United States will sign bilateral agreements with Armenia and Azerbaijan that will address the joint development of economic opportunities to unlock the full potential of the South Caucasus region.
"I am very proud of these courageous leaders for doing the right thing for the great nations of Armenia and Azerbaijan. This will be a historic day for Armenia, Azerbaijan, the United States and the world," the U.S. President concluded.
