A Residential Building Collapsed In St. Petersburg Right On Nevsky Prospekt

This is the fifth case in two weeks in the territory of the Russian Federation.
In St. Petersburg, floor slabs have collapsed in a residential building on Nevsky Prospekt - this is the fifth case of collapse of a residential or administrative building in Russia in the last two weeks. According to preliminary data from the city prosecutor's office, the floor slabs between the first and second floors of the building partially collapsed. The Central District Prosecutor's Office and investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation have initiated an investigation into the incident, The Moscow Times.
Interfax reports, citing sources in law enforcement agencies, that one person was killed in the incident and another was injured. Russian Emergencies Ministry officials and utility services are working at the site. The collapse may have occurred during repair work.
This is the fifth case of building collapse in Russia in a short period of time:
July 31 in Ufa there was a partial collapse of a section of a five-story building, formerly belonging to the Bashkir Cooperative Technical School and Bashpotrebsoyuz. The incident took place on Kommunisticheskaya Street. According to the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a part of the wall collapsed. The building, recognized as an object of cultural heritage, was abandoned and was officially in a state of emergency. According to the city mayor Ratmir Mavliev, no one was injured.
July 29 in Yekaterinburg, a part of a three-story administrative building built in 1963 on Martovskaya Street collapsed. There were no casualties: 12 people left the building on their own before rescuers arrived, and another 24 were evacuated. According to Valery Gorelykh, a spokesman for the Sverdlovsk region's Interior Ministry, one of the probable causes was the dilapidation of the structure.
July 28 in Astrakhan, the entrance of an emergency apartment building collapsed, which was supposed to be demolished back in April. At least three people were injured as a result of the collapse. The Investigative Committee has opened criminal cases under articles on negligence and destruction of property by negligence (Art. 293 and Art. 168 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
July 25 in Saratov as a result of a domestic gas explosion collapsed the entrance of a ten-story apartment building. At least seven people died, including one child, and 18 others were injured. Investigators opened a criminal case under the article on provision of services that do not meet safety requirements (Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
