Trump Says He Will Meet With Putin On Aug. 15 In Alaska

A very symbolic area has been chosen.

US President Donald Trump has said he will meet Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15

Truth Social, Trump wrote in Truth Social.

"The long awaited meeting between myself as President of the United States and Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the great state of Alaska," Trump wrote.

However, he said, further details of the meeting will not yet be revealed.

It is not yet known why the meeting between Trump and Putin will take place in Alaska.

It is worth recalling the historical fact that Alaska once belonged to the Russian Empire, which began developing the land in the late 18th century. Russia's main interest in the region was the lucrative fishing of fur seals and otters. However, due to the remoteness, difficult conditions of the colony and declining revenues, the empire began to see the sale of Alaska as a profitable move.

In 1867, Russia sold Alaska to the United States for $7.2 million in gold, which is considered one of the most lucrative deals in American history.

The transfer of the territory took place on October 18 of that year, when the Russian flag was lowered over the colony's capital and the American flag was raised. At first, many in the United States were skeptical of the purchase, calling it "Seward's Desert" (after Secretary of State William Seward, the initiator of the deal). However, the discovery of gold, oil and other resources later made Alaska a strategically and economically valuable part of the United States.

The New York Times recently reported, citing sources, that U.S. President Donald Trump intends to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin next week.

Subsequently, the White House confirmed this.
