Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky may be participating in some way in a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
This is reported by CBS News.
Reminder, today (Trump announced that he will meet with Putin on August 15). Their meeting will take place in Alaska.
"The long-awaited meeting between myself as president of the United States and Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the great state of Alaska," Trump said.
Now Ukraine has not commented on Trump's announcement. However, CBS News sources say that Zelensky may be involved in some way in the meeting between Trump and Putin.
At the same time, Putin himself has already had a statement made regarding his meeting with Trump.
The dictator's aide Yuri Ushakov said that Putin and Trump will focus on discussing options for reaching a long-term solution to the war in Ukraine during their meeting in Alaska.
The meeting will take place in Alaska
Why exactly Alaska was chosen as the venue for Trump and Putin's meeting is not known. However, it is worth recalling the historical fact that Alaska once belonged to the Russian Empire. The main interest of the Russians in this region was fishing for fur seals and otters. But the difficult conditions of maintaining the colony and decreasing revenues, the empire began to consider the sale of Alaska as a profitable step.
That is why in 1867 Russia sold Alaska to the United States for 7.2 million dollars in gold, which is considered one of the most profitable deals in American history.
