Axios: US, Ukraine And Europe To Meet In Britain Ahead Of Trump-Putin Summit

So far, the lineup for this meeting is unknown.

Senior officials from the United States, Ukraine and several European countries plan to meet this weekend in the United Kingdom to try to reach common ground ahead of a planned meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. This was reported by Axios, citing its sources.

The publication explained that such a meeting is planned because Ukraine and several NATO allies fear that Trump may agree to the Russian president's proposals to end the war without considering their position.

The idea for the meeting in the UK emerged during a conference call on Friday between representatives of the United States, Ukraine and Europe. Now the composition of participants of this meeting is still being discussed.

Axios recalled that recently the special representative of the US president Steve Whitkoff met with Putin in Moscow. According to the publication's sources, during that meeting the Russian dictator agreed to end the war if Ukraine would give up to the Russian Federation the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, which the Russian occupiers largely seized after a full-scale invasion, as well as Crimea.

"According to sources, at least some participants in the teleconference were left under the impression that Putin had agreed to give up his claims to two other Ukrainian territories that Russia partially controls: the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. This would have been a significant concession from Russia's previous position. However, when Whitkoff held another videoconference with senior Ukrainian and European officials the next day, he said that Putin had agreed to freeze Russia's current positions in these regions," the material emphasized.

This would mean that a significant part of both regions would remain under Russian occupation, along with the strategic Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

At the same time, a Ukrainian official told Axios that even if Zelensky agreed to Putin's demands, he would have to hold a referendum, as Ukraine's constitution does not allow him to give away territories.
