"We Honor The Extraordinary Resilience Of The Belarusian People."

Statement by the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

"Today we honor the extraordinary resilience and determination of the Belarusian people and their representatives in exile, who continue to prepare for democratic transformation, to support Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression and the complicity of the Belarusian regime, and to advocate for the future of their country as part of the European family," was the statement made by President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Marcos Perestrello on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the 2020 "elections" in Belarus.

Perestrello emphasized that five years ago the Belarusian people protested against the fraudulent "elections" and faced the brutal suppression of Lukashenko's regime. But these events also initiated the struggle for freedom.

Perestrello emphasized that the recent release of blogger Sergei Tikhanovsky after five years in prison is "a vivid reminder of what can be achieved through international solidarity and constant pressure."

"However, many other political prisoners remain behind bars, and we call for their immediate release," said the NATO PA president.

He emphasized that support for democratic Belarus is both a moral imperative and a strategic contribution to the security of Europe.

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly "will never back down from its firm position in supporting those fighting for a free, sovereign and democratic Belarus," Perestrello said.
