Lukashenko's Regime Is On The Verge Of Upheaval

Russia's economy is in trouble.

A recession has begun in the Russian economy. It is not yet official, but the details are no longer important. The economic recession is still measured in tenths of a percent, but the best is yet to come for the Russian economy. And it's high time for the Belarusian economy to start preparing for the worst. So that there would be no unpleasant surprises later in life, writes planbmedia.io.

The economists of Vnesheconombank estimate that Russia's GDP shrank by 0.6 percent in the second quarter, RBC reported. This was said by the bank's economist Andrey Klepach at a closed meeting of the Stolypin Club. At the end of the first quarter, the GDP contraction amounted to the same 0.6 percent. And two consecutive quarters of economic contraction are already considered a technical recession.

Although it's not official yet. Because Rosstat has not reported data on the results of the second quarter. But according to its estimates, the annualized growth rate of the Russian economy slowed down to 1.1 percent at the end of the half-year. In the first quarter, the Russian economy grew by 1.4 percent. So a decline in the second quarter is more than likely.

The more so because the recession started long ago in the civilian sector of the economy. The modest GDP growth figures come at the expense of military production. The production of bombs and shells, which do a lot of harm, but do not bring any benefit to the economy.

Nevertheless, the Russian authorities promise that at the end of the year the economy will grow by at least 1.5 percent. Economists not affiliated with the authorities are more modest in their expectations. According to the experts of "Renaissance Capital," the year-end growth will be less than one percent.

And all this leaves no chance for the Belarusian authorities to fulfill their forecasts. Especially since the Belarusian economy is already stumbling on both feet. In July, the GDP decline amounted to 2.7 percent. However, it happened due to the shift of harvesting dates. But with Russia's economy falling, the Belarusian economy has few chances to recover.
