On September 1, The Truth Came Out

The demographic catastrophe in Belarus has reached such a scale that even the state TV can't hide it.

The country is losing people, and no one is surprised by that anymore. But some figures are still able to shock. By September 1 this year, Belarusian schools suddenly lost another 15 thousand first-graders, writes planbmedia.io.

Last year, 105 thousand children went to the first grade on September 1. This year, only 90,000. The drop for the year is 14 percent. And this is no longer a gradual deterioration of the demographic situation, which can be observed in all our neighbors. This is a real collapse and possibly even a catastrophe.

The only neighbors of Belarus that were worse this year were warring Russia and Ukraine. In Russia, the number of first-graders collapsed by 16 percent, in Ukraine - by 20 percent. Against this background, a drop of 14 percent doesn't look so terrible. But Russia and Ukraine are at war. While in Belarus - complete stability.

Other Belarusian neighbors are not all well with demography either. But, for example, in Poland, the number of first-graders has decreased by 7%, in Latvia - by 3.5%, in Moldova - by about 5%. At the same time, the number of first-graders in Latvia in 2024 was higher than in 2023.

And in Belarus - complete stability. The number of first-graders is constantly and steadily decreasing. In 2023, 110 thousand children went to school for the first time on September 1. In 2020 they were 114 thousand.

And this is not surprising, given that from 2020 to the beginning of 2025 at least 600 thousand people left the country. And it's going to get worse from here on. Because last year only 59 thousand children were born in Belarus. One and a half times less compared to 2019.

That is, if nothing changes, in a few years there will be a third fewer first-graders in the country than there are now. And that's in the best case scenario. Unless the parents of those children, who were born in 2024, decide to take them far away from the Belarusian patriotic education.

"Radio Svaboda" told the story of a family, which did just that. They left Belarus to save their children from pesky patriotism.

Because the big world is developing artificial intelligence, studying the human genome and preparing for a flight to Mars. Meanwhile, in Belarusian schools children are taught to survive in a hostile imperialist environment in 1953.

Lukashenko, in his seventies, never learned to press buttons on a cell phone. That's why the rest of us don't need cell phones. Starting this year, cell phones will be taken away from children. So that nothing distracts them from the right patriotic education.

But at the first lesson children will listen to Lukashenko's speech and write a letter to the pioneers in 2075. Apparently about how in fifty years all Soviet children will live under communism again.
