The Polish Prime Minister summarized the results of the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers.
There was a violation of Polish airspace by a large number of Russian drones overnight.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said this during an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers, TVN24 reports.
"There was a violation of Polish airspace by a large number of Russian drones tonight," the Polish prime minister said. He added that "the drones that posed a direct threat were shot down."
He emphasized that the defense mechanisms worked and the decision-making process was flawless. Tusk said that "the threat was eliminated thanks to the decisive position of the commanders, our soldiers, pilots as well as allies."
The Polish prime minister said that "we are most likely dealing with a large-scale provocation." "We are consulting with our allies. I am in constant contact with the NATO secretary-general so that in the coming hours, days and beyond we can act as effectively as we did tonight in case of such a threat," he said.
"This is the first time that Russian drones have been shot down over the territory of a NATO state. And that's why all our allies take the situation very seriously," he emphasized.
He also said there were "no casualties."
The National Security Bureau said earlier, before 8 a.m., that "a meeting called by the Polish president has been concluded."
Polish government spokesman Adam Szlapka wrote on Platform X that "a meeting is taking place between Prime Minister Donald Tusk and ministers responsible for the security of the state." "The prime minister has called an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers for 8:00," Szlapka reported.
President Karol Nawrocki said at 6:30 that he had been in constant contact with the deputy prime minister, the minister of national defense and the chief commanders of Poland's armed forces since the violation of Polish airspace.
"I participated in a meeting at the Operational Command of the branches of the armed forces. I will soon hold a meeting at the BBN, which will be attended by the head of the government. The security of our homeland is the top priority and requires close cooperation," he emphasized.
