A new format of cooperation is being created.
The European Union will allocate 6 billion euros from frozen Russian assets and create a new cooperation format "Drone Alliance".
The European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen announced this during a speech in the European Parliament.
"We call it 'qualitative military advantage'." It will support investment in the capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces," von der Leyen said.
The role of drones in the war
According to the head of the European Commission, Ukraine had no drones before the full-scale war. Today, it is their use that accounts for more than two-thirds of Russian equipment losses.
"This is not only an advantage on the battlefield. It is a reminder of the power of human ingenuity in our open societies," von der Leyen said.
The threat from Russia
At the same time, Russia is actively ramping up production of drones using Iranian-developed Shahed. Von der Leyen emphasized that Moscow relies on mass industrial production.
"Overnight, Russia sent 800 drones against Ukraine. The ingenuity helped Ukraine open the door to its defense. But industrial strength could threaten to slam it shut," the European Commission chief warned.
New alliance and 6 billion euros
Von der Leyen said this is why Europe should use its industrial strength to support Ukraine. "We can help turn Ukrainian ingenuity into military advantage and joint industrialization," she said.
She announced that the EU will provide €6 billion through the ERA loan program and launch the Drone Alliance.
"Ukraine has ingenuity. What it needs now is scale. And together we can provide it, so that Ukraine maintains its advantage and Europe strengthens itself," Ursula von der Leyen emphasized.
