Lithuania Says In What Case It Will Close The Border With Belarus "at The Very Minute"

Border control has been increased.

Poland has closed the border with Belarus from September 12 because of the exercise "West-2025. Lithuanian Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovic said that if there are provocations, Lithuania will do the same, Delfi reports.

- If [provocation] happens, the head of the border guard is ready to authorize the border closure at the same minute. <�...> If something happens, a drone or a provocation or some unclear increased movement of forces near the border, we can do it," Kondratovic said in an interview with LRT radio.

He said it is up to the Lithuanian government to decide later to close the border for a longer period of time.

- There is increased control in such places. We are doing this and assessing all the risks that there may be. I spoke yesterday with the head of the Latvian Interior Ministry, their position and our position now - control and taking measures adequate to the situation," said Kondratovich.

He added that Poland's decision to close the border had caused a lot of concern among EU citizens, who had not had time to leave Belarus.

- If we close the border today, all of them will be in a hopeless state, abandoned," he stressed.
