Nepal's President Announces Name Of New Premier After Zoomer Revolution

Nepal's President Ram Chandra Paudel has agreed to dissolve the country's House of Representatives and appoint former Supreme Court Chief Justice Sushila Karki as interim head of government, Himalayan Times and Khabarhub report. The information was confirmed by the head of state's public relations adviser Kiran Pokhrel.

Khabarhub sources say Paudel has yielded to public pressure. Now documents are being prepared to legalize the outlined steps. Pokhrel specified that Karki could be sworn in as early as the evening of September 12.

Himalayan Times points out that the president's decision is in line with the demands of members of the "Zoomer Revolution" who have been pushing for the dissolution of parliament (the House of Representatives is the lower house, the upper house is the national assembly) and the formation of a non-partisan interim government.

Khabarhub noted that young people consider Karki the most suitable candidate to lead the country during the transition period. A Reuters source also said Generation Z wants Karki to be the prime minister.

His predecessor Sharma Oli quit as head of government just amid the Sept. 9 protests.
