It's not a "compromise."

Kallas noted that first Russia demands something that never belonged to it and then moves on to threats.

Even discussing possible territorial concessions from Ukraine means falling into a Russian trap. This opinion was expressed by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas in an interview with Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland.

She reacted to the latest polls among German residents, which showed that the majority favors territorial concessions from Ukraine for the sake of peace. Kallas emphasized that this is a classic Russian negotiating tactic.

The EU high representative said that Russia first demands something that never belonged to it and then moves on to threats. She said this was what was pushing the West into discussions about possible concessions.

"At the end of the day, the Russians are getting more than they ever dared to dream of. This discussion about possible territorial concessions is a trap and we must not fall into it. The Russians want us to discuss what Ukraine should give up for peace, while completely ignoring the fact that the Kremlin itself has not made any concessions so far," Callas said.

She added that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is now trying to promote the idea that the compromise is that he will keep only the territories of Ukraine that he has already occupied.

"It's not really a compromise if absolutely outrageous demands have been made before. So I say again, 'We must not fall into Putin's trap.' Our goal must be to make sure that this war is not profitable for Putin. The reward for aggression will be more war, not less," Callas noted.
