Political Prisoner Nikita Zolotariov Opened His Veins

He is serving his sentence in penal colony No. 8 in Orsha.

According to the initiative dissidentby, in late August, political prisoner Nikita Zolotorev cut his veins. The Belarusian is serving his sentence in the penal colony № 8 in Orsha.

- He was urgently taken to the hospital, where he received stitches. Nikita is alive, but his condition is of serious concern," the initiative writes and demands his immediate release.

Nikita Zolotorev was detained in 2020, when he was 16 years old allegedly for throwing a Molotov cocktail in the direction of soldiers. Together with Leonid Kovalev and 25-year-old Dmitri Korneev, he was charged for the events of August 10, 2020, under three articles of the Criminal Code:

293 (Organization of mass riots);

295-3 (Illegal actions with regard to objects whose striking effect is based on the use of combustible substances);

364 (Violence or threat of violence against internal affairs officers).

He was sentenced to five years in an educational colony. On June 26, 2022, Nikita was transferred from educational colony No. 2 to Gomel SIZO-3, and then to Mogilev colony No. 15. Later he was transferred from the colony to Mahiliou prison. It is known that the boy has epilepsy.

Repression also affected Nikita's family. His father Mikhail Lapunov was repeatedly arrested under Article 19.11 of the Administrative Code for "distribution of extremist materials", and in 2023 the KGB recognized the chat room "Gomel for Nikita Zolotarev" as an "extremist formation", for which he was sent to a colony.
