Drones Have Reached Perm Krai: Russia's Largest Methanol Producer Is Hit

The plant is located about 1,600 kilometers from Ukraine.

Overnight, the Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked the Metafrax Chemicals plant in Russia's Perm region.

The company is one of Russia's largest methanol producers. Russian authorities confirmed the attack, Dialog.UA reports.

The facility is about 1,600 kilometers from Ukraine, meaning Ukraine used its long-range UAVs to hit it.

Local authorities confirmed the strike on the industrial facility, without specifying which enterprise was hit. They said there were "no casualties," that the production facility was allegedly operating as usual and "nothing threatens the safety of residents."

Metafrax Chemicals is under sanctions by the UK and Ukraine. The sanctions documents cite it as a company that benefits or supports the Russian government by operating in a strategically important sector, including the defense industry.

Metafrax Chemicals produces chemical products - methanol and its derivatives - that are used in the military industry, such as rocket fuel and explosives.

In February 2024, Metafrax Chemicals was taken over by JSC Roschem, which emphasizes the strengthening of state control over chemical production. Moreover, in September 2023, a Russian court ruled that the 1992 privatization of Metafrax was illegal and ordered the seizure of 94.2% of the company's shares from the previous owners, arguing that it violated "the economic sovereignty of the Russian Federation and its defense capability."

Metafrax Chemicals is not just a business chemical. It is a key link in the chain that serves Putin's war machine. The defeat of such a facility is a major success for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
