The Russian Federation has a big problem with air defense.
Moscow has offered Ankara to buy back the S-400 air defense missile systems previously supplied to Turkey due to a shortage of such systems in its own warehouses, sources told Turkish publication Nefes.
They said Russia has used all available air defense (air defense) systems during the war against Ukraine and therefore cannot offer other countries interested in buying S-400s ready-made systems. Meanwhile, Turkey, which received the S-400s in 2019, is hardly using them as they do not meet NATO standards.
In addition, Ankara is actively developing its own air defense systems as part of the Steel Dome project in a bid to reduce its dependence on foreign designs. Also, as Nefes sources noted, the missiles delivered with the S-400 are already halfway through their service life, which reduces the value of the installations for Turkey. Another reason to sell the systems back to Russia may be the US decision to exclude Turkey from the program of supplying the latest F-35 fighter jets for the purchase of S-400, the Turkish newspaper's interlocutors said.
