The Estonian government has begun erecting strong defensive structures to strengthen security on the eastern border.

It is noted that within the next two years, a 40-kilometer anti-tank ditch will be dug along the eastern border, which is part of the planned Baltic Defense Zone system in Estonia.
It is noted that while a half-kilometer anti-tank ditch has been dug outside the fence in the village of Vinski near Meremäe, future anti-tank ditches will be dug inside the delayed fence, which will also be equipped with "dragon teeth" and barbed wire.
"Since we have a good natural barrier in northeastern Estonia in the form of the Narva River and Lake Peipsi in the east, we plan to build a 40-kilometer anti-tank ditch in southeastern Estonia to stop the enemy. That is, along the entire border where it is necessary," said Lieutenant Colonel Ainar Afanasiev, chief of staff of the Armed Forces.
He said it is not necessary in swampy areas because "it is impossible to get there with equipment."
"By the end of 2027, we should have more than 40 kilometers of anti-tank ditches ready. As well as almost 600 bunkers," the military officer noted.
The project manager of RKIK's procurement department Armin Siilivask noted that this year they plan to establish two support points, one in northeastern Estonia and one in southeastern Estonia, which will number up to 14 points that will be additionally placed in the landscape.
"This year we also plan to establish warehouses. Right now all the materials for the barriers are in temporary warehouses, but this year we will move them to warehouses so that these materials will be as close to the support points as possible," he added.
