The Prosecutor General's Office and the Criminal Bureau of the Lithuanian Police revealed a group of persons who organized and planned to commit four terrorist attacks in different European countries. They managed to send four parcels with improvised explosive incendiary devices to European countries through the popular services of DHL and DPD. About it reports LRT.
In the framework of pre-trial investigation of particularly serious crimes - the activities of an organized terrorist group and terrorist acts - it was established that on July 19, 2024 Lithuanian citizen A. Sh. (born in 1973), acting together with accomplices, used the international delivery and transportation services of DHL and DPD and from Vilnius to different European countries sent four parcels with improvised explosive incendiary devices.
Two of these parcels were sent to different European countries. Additional mixtures of combustible substances to enhance the incendiary effect were in tubes from hygiene products and cosmetics. Termite, an industrial and military substance with extremely high temperature of combustion, was used for the destructive effect," the newspaper writes.
According to the importance of the case, a joint investigation team was created. It included representatives of law enforcement and intelligence agencies of Lithuania, Poland, Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Latvia, Estonia, the United States and Canada.
In the course of the investigation it was established that the organization and coordination of these crimes were engaged by Russian citizens with ties to the military intelligence of the Russian Federation. It is noted that several coordinators of the crimes are directly related to the attempted terrorist attack in Vilnius on May 9, 2024, when the IKEA shopping mall caught fire.
The detainees include Ukrainian citizen Daniil Gromov (b. 1988.Among the detainees are Ukrainian citizen Daniil Gromov (b. 1988), who also uses the personal data of Russian citizen Yaroslav Mikhailov (b. 1988); Tomas Dovgan Stabachinskas (b. 1971), who has Lithuanian and Russian citizenship.
"It was found out that during the preparation of terrorist attacks other citizens of Lithuania, Russia, Latvia, Estonia and Ukraine were involved in certain tasks. They were found through acquaintances, recruited and maintained contact through the Telegram application, offering rewards and paying with cryptocurrency. The group acted in an organized manner, observing strict secrecy, dividing the tasks: transportation of parcels and combustible substances, their transfer to other participants, hiding in caches, activation of devices, etc., were assigned to different executors. - were entrusted to different executors, most often unrelated to each other," says LRT.
More than 30 searches were carried out in Lithuania, Poland, Latvia and Estonia. During the investigation, explosives hidden in tin cans and detonators were seized from illegal circulation.
"Some of the devices were made in such a way that the explosion had a directed effect. Hexogen was used for their production. The total power of the seized devices in TNT equivalent exceeded 6 kilograms. According to available information, these devices could be intended for other terrorist attacks," the newspaper writes.
At this stage of pre-trial investigation, a total of 15 suspects - citizens of Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Ukraine - are suspected of organizing and preparing these crimes.
