China Has Copied The Russian Typhoon

The designers of a new armored vehicle, which was spotted during tests in China, copied the solutions of the Russian mine-protected KamAZ-63968 ("Typhoon-K"). About it writes Defence Blog.

The publication drew attention to a video clip showing tests of a new MRAP-class vehicle (Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected - armored vehicles with enhanced mine protection). The author noted that the Chinese model repeats the layout of the Typhoon. The three-axle vehicle with 6x6 wheel arrangement could be built on the chassis of Shaanxi HMV3 tactical truck.

The rear part of the vehicle has a modular troop compartment with a hydraulic door and mine-resistant seats. The seats are suspended from the roof to reduce the impact of the blast wave when hitting a mine.

The Chinese Typhoon has a hydropneumatic suspension that allows the driver to adjust ground clearance. "The similarities between the vehicle and the Russian MRAP architecture are hard to miss. The similarities in structural layout, crew protection philosophy, and modular adaptability reflect what may be a broader reverse engineering or license adaptation scheme," the piece said.
