Everything's ready for it.
For NATO forces to shoot down targets over Ukraine, almost everything is ready: most of our air defense is Western, so data exchange and coordination will be easy.
Alexandr Sayenko, commander of the 67th Brigade in 2022-2023, now a military analyst of the Independent Anti-Corruption Commission (IACO), told RBC-Ukraine in a commentary.
"From the military point of view, it can look like this: airplanes, let's say, from the territory of Poland take off and can shoot down in the western regions of Ukraine "Shaheds" or missiles that are headed in the direction of Poland or other European countries," Saenko explained.
According to him, joint fulfillment of combat tasks is a rather complicated process and it should be practiced. After all, Ukraine and NATO have extensive experience in conducting military exercises, so there should be no problems with this.
In his opinion, in any case, to shoot down targets over Ukraine from abroad, or to operate over the Ukrainian sky, you need proper legal formalization.
"The biggest problem here is the legal plane - permission for units of Poland or another country to be on the territory of Ukraine. This requires a presidential appeal to the Verkhovna Rada," the expert said.
He believes that such a step should be taken now, for the future, as a signal to partners, and the best format of cooperation in this case would be a separate bilateral agreement with Ukraine.
It is worth recalling that on the night of September 10, Russia launched about 20 Russian drones into Polish airspace while attacking Ukraine.
To ensure the security of its country, Poland took to the skies and for the first time shot down Russian drones, and even over its territory.
In response to the incident, NATO activated four articles of the Alliance. In addition, the bloc recently launched Operation Military Guardian. It provides for the transfer of certain equipment to Poland from NATO allies to strengthen the defense.
