Trump: Putin Let Me Down

The US President commented on the unwillingness of the Russian dictator to stop the war in Ukraine.

Russia's ruler Vladimir Putin has "really let down" U.S. leader Donald Trump on the issue of a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine. Once again, the White House host shared his indignation over his Kremlin counterpart's intransigence on Sept. 18 during a press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Trump once again said that he had ended seven wars and the Russia-Ukraine war should be the eighth. The US president emphasized that he thought the conflict in Ukraine was the easiest to end because of what he thought was his relationship with Vladimir Putin.

- I thought it would be easiest to get the operation done because of my relationship with President Putin, but he let me down. He really let me down. It was supposed to be Russia and Ukraine. We'll see how it ends," the American leader emphasized.

Starmer added that during the meeting, the two heads of state discussed options for increasing support for Ukraine.

Donald Trump has previously repeatedly expressed his disappointment with Vladimir Putin's actions on Ukraine.

On September 2, he said that he had "always had a great relationship" with the Russian president.

- I'm very disappointed. Thousands of people are dying. It is not Americans who are dying, but Russians, Ukrainians, and there are thousands of them, and this is a senseless war. <�...> We'll see what happens, but I'm very disappointed in President Putin. I can say this, and we will do something to help people live. You know, it's not about Ukraine. It's about how people live. 7,000 people die every week. Mostly soldiers. But 7,000 people. And if I can help stop that, I feel it's my duty to do that. I am very disappointed," Trump said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov earlier attributed US President Donald Trump's regular "disappointment" with the pace of the Ukrainian settlement to his habit of solving problems quickly.

- When President Trump says he is disappointed, partly, it seems to me - naturally, I can't say that I know him very well, but nevertheless I have talked to him several times, and I have some idea - partly this is due to the fact that he wants quick solutions," Lavrov said in an interview on Channel One. - Somewhere it may work out, somewhere - hardly at all.
