One of the main reasons for such large-scale recruitment is considered to be the shortage of personnel in the armed forces. Both financial incentives and promises of Russian citizenship are used to attract mercenaries.

In addition, illegal migration and trade routes are used to transport mercenaries along four main routes:

Afghanistan - Central Asia - Russia.

In recent days, cases of detention of illegal migrants trying to cross the borders in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries have been recorded. Their correspondence indicates close coordination with the Russian side and the receipt of specific promises for participation in this process.

According to photo documents, an Iraqi citizen Amir Wisam Jwad, born on December 23, 2006, was detained trying to illegally cross the territory of one of these countries. It was established that the mercenary was recruited by the Russian Defense Ministry to participate in the war against Ukraine.

According to the available data, the Iraqi citizen, at the suggestion of an employee of the Russian Defense Ministry Polina Alexandrovna, concluded a contract with the ministry to join the ranks of the armed group "Baghdad".

According to the terms of the contract, for agreeing to participate in combat operations, the foreigner was initially promised a monetary reward of between 3,000 and 8,000 dollars, as well as the granting of Russian citizenship after six months.
