Rutte: NATO Ready To Scare Russia

NATO is ready to "scare" Russia to prevent ongoing provocations. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said this at a press conference, Sky News reported.

"Of course," the NATO secretary general said when asked if NATO was ready for a tougher response.

"But we always have to do that by assessing the situation," he added.

Rutte also noted that NATO pilots escorting Russian planes out of Estonian airspace had not detected "an immediate threat."

"In the latest violation of Estonian airspace, NATO forces promptly intercepted and escorted the planes without escalating the conflict because there was no immediate threat," he said.

The NATO secretary-general also emphasized that it was "too early to say" whether the drone incident in Denmark was linked to Russian incursions.

The Danes are now assessing what happened, the NATO secretary-general added after a telephone conversation with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen just before meeting with reporters.
