Norway Claims Three Violations Of Airspace By Russian Planes

Violations lasted from one to four minutes.

Russian Federation has violated Norwegian airspace three times this year. The violations lasted between one and four minutes.

The Guardian reports The Guardian.

The publication says the Norwegian government joined in condemning Russia's violation of Estonian airspace last week. It said in a separate statement issued after today's NATO meeting.

According to the Norwegian government, Russia violated Norwegian airspace three times during the spring and summer of this year.

"The incidents in Norway are smaller in scale than the violations against Estonia, Poland and Romania, both in location and duration. However, we take them very seriously," said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stjøre.

He added that two incidents occurred over the sea northeast of Varde in April and August, and a third over an unpopulated area along the land border in eastern Finnmark in July.

The border violations - involving SU-24, SU-33 fighter jets and L410 Turbolet aircraft - are known to have lasted between one and four minutes. Norway cannot now determine whether they were deliberate or "caused by navigational errors."

"Whatever the reason, this is unacceptable and we have made that clear to the Russian authorities," Stjøre said.
