Ankara is reducing its dependence on Russian gas.
Turkish state-owned energy company BOTAŞ and the world's leading independent energy and commodity group Mercuria have agreed on 20-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to Turkey.
Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on social media X.
"We signed a long-term LNG supply agreement in New York between our national company BOTAŞ and Mercuria, one of the world's leading energy groups, for 20 years," Bayraktar said.
The minister noted that deliveries under the contract will start in 2026. Turkey will receive about 4 billion cubic meters of LNG annually, which is equivalent to about 70 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Deliveries will come from both liquid bulk terminals in the United States and from terminals in Europe and North Africa in particular.
