A Russian airplane flew over the frigate Hamburg, which is currently participating in the NATO exercise "Neptune Strike".
The Russian fighter jet committed another provocation in the Baltic Sea. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said this during the budget debate in the Bundestag, quoted by n-tv.
A Russian warplane flew over a German Navy frigate in the Baltic Sea, he said. Such overflights are considered unnecessary provocations by the military.
Media reports that a Russian fighter jet flew over the frigate Hamburg, which is currently participating in NATO's Neptune Strike exercise. These overflights occurred twice, shortly before and last weekend.
Pistorius compared the incident to the intrusion of Russian drones and fighter jets into the airspace of Poland and Estonia. In his view, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is testing NATO.
"Putin wants to provoke NATO member states, and he seeks to identify, expose and exploit imaginary weaknesses in the Alliance," the German defense minister added.
