Argentina's President Has Made Territorial Claims To Britain
Javier Milay

This is about the Falkland Islands.

Argentina considers the Falkland Islands "occupied" by Britain and wants negotiations for their "return."

Argentine President Javier Milay said this during a meeting with US President Donald Trump, according to Sky News.

The Argentine president said he wanted to raise several "sensitive and extremely important issues."

"I want to reaffirm our legitimate claim to sovereignty over the Malvinas (Falklands - ed.) Islands and the surrounding maritime areas, which continue to be illegally occupied," Miley said.

He also criticized the UN. According to the president, the UN must change because the main purpose of the organization is to preserve international peace and security, and "everything else must serve that purpose."

He also called on the UN to become more institutionally effective, to not allow international cooperation to block economic growth, and to recognize that where issues can be resolved at the national level, they should be resolved that way.

Argentina claims the Falkland Islands (Malvinas Islands) based on historical and geographical arguments.

The country considers the The Argentine government claims that the population of the islands was resettled by the British and that colonization was illegal, violating Argentina's rights to territory that historically formed part of the Spanish colonies of South America.

In addition, the archipelago is strategically important for controlling the sea lanes and fisheries resources of the South Atlantic.
