Gazeta Wyborcza: Poland May Start Shooting Down Airplanes And Drones In The Skies Over Belarus

There's counseling going on.

Consultations are underway in Poland on the possibility of shooting down threatening Russian planes, drones and missiles in the skies of Ukraine and Belarus.

As Gazeta Wyborcza explains, in 2022, the PiS party changed the law on the use of Polish armed forces abroad in such a way that it removes the Polish government's right to independently decide whether to shoot down Russian drones over Ukraine and Belarus.

The current coalition is going to change this law.

"Today we are discussing the strategy of using our aviation and air defense over Ukraine or Belarus to shoot down Russian planes, drones or missiles that have not yet crossed the Polish border.

In the meantime, there is still a provision that prevents our authorities from making such a decision on their own. This needs to be changed quickly, unless someone wants things to stay as they are and our defense to be as ineffective as possible," the newspaper quoted the expert as saying.
