Dutch Defense Minister Names Year Of Possible NATO Clash With Russian Federation

The Kremlin is preparing for war.

Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans has warned that Russia is already actively preparing for a large-scale military conflict with NATO and aims to be ready for a direct clash by 2030. He noted that Moscow's arms buildup and troop mobilization show that Russia has the resources and intentions to continue imperial aggression, while Ukraine's security directly affects stability in the whole of Europe.

In a commentary to "Ukrinform" he noted that Russia is already significantly increasing arms production and mobilizing troops beyond the level necessary for the current war in Ukraine, while actively building strategic reserves and preparing for a possible large-scale clash with NATO in the coming years. All in all, this shows that Moscow has both the resources and the intentions to continue its imperial aggression. In this context, the minister emphasized that in order to effectively deter Russia, Western countries must provide Ukraine with reliable security guarantees and do everything possible to ensure that any ceasefire or peace agreement does not turn into a mere pause before a new wave of aggression.

"By 2030, Russia wants to be ready for a large-scale clash with NATO. In other words, Putin has the intentions, capabilities and incentives to continue his imperial aggression ... This is a reality for which we must be prepared. And our only option is peace through strength. Peace through strength means that we must provide Ukraine with credible security guarantees," the official said.

He also pointed out that support for Ukraine must be not only operational but also long-term, as providing the country with the means to defend itself helps create stable conditions to repel further Russian aggression, while emphasizing the need for a clear signal from NATO that any attack on Alliance countries will be met with dominant force.

"We must also be clear. This is the only way to preserve freedom and security in Europe," the Dutch defense minister said.

In addition, the minister recalled that since the beginning of the war, the Netherlands has allocated more than 13 billion euros for military support to Ukraine, of which almost 9 billion had been provided by the end of August this year, and some of these funds are aimed at commercial purchases of weapons and equipment.

We recall that European diplomats this week warned the Kremlin that NATO is ready to respond strongly to any further violations of its air
