A "landmark" event took place.
Igor Strelkov-Girkin, long one of the most ardent supporters of aggression against Ukraine, has admitted in a letter from a Russian colony that attempts to take over Ukraine have failed. According to Girkin, the SWO has reached a stalemate, the war does not bring Russia victory and only harms it. He criticizes the military leadership for adventurous plans, systemic mistakes and lack of responsibility for defeats, writes "Dialog.UA".
Journalist and blogger Denis Kazansky, analyzing his statement, calls it an "epochal" event: In an environment previously dominated by a hardline imperialist demand for war, the voice of the chief zealot is now in favor of ending it.
The author emphasizes: the resilience of the Ukrainian army and society has discouraged the radical public from continuing aggression. Girkin was jailed for fiercely criticizing Putin and his methods of warfare.
Girkin has admitted that Russia is incapable of defeating Ukraine. He calls the current campaign flawed, pointing to planning failures and lack of adequate preparation. In his opinion, the continuation of the war is causing Russia strategic and reputational damage.
"If we can't win the war, then maybe we should withdraw from it," Strelkov-Girkin writes, stating the deadlock of the SWO and demanding responsibility for mistakes.
Denis Kazansky assesses Girkin's admission as a sign that even among radical imperialists the demand for conquering Ukraine has been lost.
He says the successes and resilience of the Ukrainian army and society have changed the perception of the war inside Russia. Why it matters. Support for ending the war from one of the ideologues of the conflict is a powerful symbolic shift.
If even the former "initiators" lose faith in victory, it changes the domestic political climate in the Russian Federation and reduces the likelihood of further mass mobilization "for conquest".
For Ukraine, it is an additional political-moral gain and an argument on the international arena.
