Szymon Golownia is leaving Polish politics.

Poland's Sejm Speaker Szymon Golownia, who will soon leave his post, plans to quit Polish politics and is applying for a high position at the United Nations.

Leader of the Poland 2050 party Szymon Golownia announced that he has already submitted his candidacy for the post of UN High Commissioner for Refugees, noting that he considers his chances "small, but a week ago they were zero."

"Never before has a Pole held such a position in the UN structures, and I know the subject of humanitarian support better than politics, because I have been doing it twice as long.... These two years have taught me how to develop ties between countries," Golovnia said and added that the structure could benefit from having someone from Central-Eastern or Northern Europe in this position.

According to Polish media, Golovnia has been contemplating his future path for some time after he realized that he would not be able to stay on as Sejm speaker.
