The conflict is no longer limited to Ukraine.
Hopes for a dialog with Putin have finally vanished. Britain's decision to support the creation of a European "drone wall" shows that the conflict is no longer limited to Ukraine - it has become common to the entire continent, writes INews (translated by Charter97.org).
London, together with Kiev, plans to mass-produce cheap interceptors that will form the basis of a barrier along NATO's eastern flank. The system will include radars, acoustic sensors and attack drones.
The occasion has been the result of numerous incidents - Russian drones have penetrated the airspace of Poland, Denmark, Norway, Romania and Sweden, and three MiG-31 fighter jets spent 12 minutes over Estonian territory. Moscow excuses it as a "mistake," but Europe sees it as a deliberate test of its mettle.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said Europe needs to abandon the practice of "firing millions of dollars worth of missiles at drones that cost many times less." That is why the British Octopus project is seen as a cost-effective basis for future defense.
Ukraine will be a key link in the project, passing on to allies the experience of mass use of drones on the battlefield. In parallel, the EU is preparing a €122 billion loan for Kiev from frozen Russian assets.
Hungary has already said it will not participate, and uncertainty about the US position after the election is worrying the eastern allies. Nevertheless, the conclusion is clear - Russian aggression at the EU's borders is no longer an abstraction. Europe is forced to accelerate military integration and industrial mobilization.
