From October 1 to December 31, 135 thousand people are planned to be sent to the Russian army.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on the fall conscription of citizens for military service. According to the document, from October 1 to December 31 it is planned to send 135 thousand people aged 18 to 30 to the army - 2 thousand recruits more than last fall. Last spring, it was planned to send 160,000 recruits for conscription - the maximum for the past 14 years, notes The Moscow Times.
The current fall draft will be the most massive in recent years. From 2016, when 152,000 Russians were scheduled to be sent to service in the fall, to 2022 (120,000), official draft figures have been declining. In the fall campaign of 2023, the Kremlin announced 130 thousand recruits for the army, last year - 133 thousand. "If you look at the whole year, recruitment is still growing. In 2025, 295 thousand people will be conscripted - this is a record number for the last nine years," the "Conscript School" stated.
Last week, the authorities again promised not to send conscripts to the war against Ukraine. "I would like to note that conscripted servicemen will not be involved in the tasks of the special military operation," said Vice-Admiral Vladimir Tsimlyansky, deputy chief of the Main Organizational and Mobilization Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
At least a third of the recruits will be sent to training units and military units, where they will learn how to use modern military equipment and receive military specialties, he said. The practice of forming scientific companies to solve scientific and applied tasks and sports companies to train promising athletes will also be continued, Tsimlyansky said.
Since next year, conscription in Russia may become year-round. The bill on this was approved by the State Duma in the first reading. The amendments suggest that the terms of conscription will expand: from January 1 to December 31 (instead of twice in the fall and spring, from April 1 to July 15). However, the dispatch of conscripts to the troops, which will be carried out by presidential decree with the designation of specific units and the number of recruits to be sent, will coincide with the current draft periods.
The document also introduces a new obligation for conscripts: if a citizen has lost the right to deferment or has not received a summons before the start of the period of sending to the army, he must, within two weeks from the beginning of this period, independently appear at the military recruitment center to reconcile the data.
