Sikorski: Russia's Defeat In The War Will Open The Way For Reforms And Regime Change

The Polish Foreign Minister emphasized that in the history of the Russian Federation reforms took place only after lost wars.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said in an interview with CNN that colonial wars usually last about a decade and end when the aggressor realizes the impossibility of victory.

"If you look at the history of Russia, it has lost quite a few wars. The Crimean War, the Russo-Japanese War, was defeated in World War I, lost the invasion of Poland in 1920, Afghanistan, and lost the Cold War. And they all have one thing in common: reforms in Russia took place only after the war," the Polish foreign minister said.

Sikorski said that Russian ruler Vladimir Putin was counting on a warm welcome in Kiev, but is unable to admit that he was wrong when he launched the invasion. Sikorski added that such wars are usually ended by another leader of the country, because only then the way to reforms is opened.

"Defeat in this war would be good not only for Ukraine and Europe, but also for Russia itself. And almost always after such defeats there was a change of regime in Russia," the Polish Foreign Minister concluded.
