Media Showed How Aliyev And Putin Had To Say Hello In Beijing

Cold encounter.

Media recorded Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Putin saying hello while in China. The video is published in Telegram Minval.

The leaders arrived in the morning at Tiananmen Square in Beijing for a military parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Prior to that, they both attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin.

The published footage shows Aliyev standing first in the line of leaders who have already arrived at the parade, while Putin enters the line of others. The Kremlin chief approached the Azerbaijani president, shook his hand and immediately turned away.

Relations between Moscow and Baku escalated after a Russian surface-to-air missile shot down flight J2-8243 near Grozny, Chechnya, on December 25, 2024. The Azerbaijan Airlines flight went down on December 25, 2024, near Kazakhstan's Aktau.

On June 27, the Russian FSB raided the homes of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg and detained about 50 people.

Some of the detainees were sent to arrest, with signs of beatings visible in court. Aliyev later claimed that the dead men were abused after detention by cutting off their genitals.
