UK Diverts More Than 1 Billion Pounds Of Proceeds From Russian Frozen Assets To Help Ukraine

London has accelerated the delivery of critical equipment and gear to the Ukrainian military.

The UK has spent more than 1 billion pounds sterling received from frozen Russian assets to finance arms and military support for Ukraine.

According to Interfax-Ukraine, this is stated in a press release on the website of the UK government following the visit of Defense Minister John Gillie to Kiev.

It is noted that these funds were used to purchase artillery ammunition, missiles for air defense systems, drones, spare parts and other equipment necessary to support and repair Ukrainian military equipment. This has enabled the rapid delivery of hundreds of thousands of shells and hundreds of missiles, new contracts to maintain and repair equipment, and support Ukraine's military operations on the frontline.

"The UK is stepping up military support to help Ukraine defend itself against Putin's illegal invasion, while working to secure peace tomorrow through the 'Coalition of the willing'. More than 1 billion pounds of military support has already been funded from frozen Russian assets, and over the last 50 days we have accelerated the delivery of critical equipment and gear to the Ukrainian military," Gili said.

It is also reported that over the last 50 days the UK has supplied Ukraine with: 4.7 million rounds of small arms ammunition, 60,000 artillery shells, rockets and ammunition, more than 2,500 drones, more than 200 electronic warfare systems, 100 light weapons, 30 vehicles, as well as additional equipment to counter drones and air defense.

The UK will spend 4.5 billion pounds on military support for Ukraine this year, including 2.26 billion pounds provided in the form of a loan through the Accelerated Emergency Income Fund, which is repaid with funds from frozen Russian assets.
