For the AFU, such vehicles could be a valuable addition.
Ukraine will receive a batch of new armored Mobile Strike Force Vehicle (MSFV) - an improved version of the M1117 Armored Security Vehicle (ASV) created by the Americans for the Afghan army. These vehicles are characterized by increased protection TWZ (translation - website Charter97.org).
The United States plans to sign a three-year contract with the company to produce 65 such vehicles and supply spare parts as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). Unlike the standard M1117s that Kiev previously received from U.S. Army depots, the MSFVs were designed with Afghan combat experience in mind and are equipped with enhanced armor protection.
MSFVs have an elongated hull, more interior space and improved mine resistance. Various modifications include a variant with a turret from the M1117, an open turret with a .50 caliber machine gun and an ambulance version for casualty evacuation. A variant with a 90 mm gun was also planned, but it was never realized.
These vehicles could be a valuable addition for Ukraine. They will provide mobility, fire support and protection of the crew from shrapnel and small arms. Mine protection is especially important, given the scale of the mine threat on the front.
Although MSFVs are inferior to tanks in terms of armor, their lighter weight and ease of operation make them more useful in a number of combat conditions. In addition, the resumption of production creates an additional channel for supplying armored vehicles to the AFU.
