French President Emmanuel Macron has called the Ukrainian army's ability to deter Russian aggression "the main security guarantee" for Ukraine. Macron said this on September 4 at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Paris, a video published by the Elysee Palace.

Macron said there "cannot be any restrictions on the format or capabilities of the Ukrainian army" in talks on a peaceful settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine.

"This is what we defend and will defend to the end," the French president said after the meeting of the "coalition of the willing."

Macron assured that Ukraine's European partners would "contribute not only to the Ukrainian army's resistance to new attacks, but also to deter the Russian army from any new attempts at aggression."
