The head of the White House accused the EU countries of buying Russian oil.
US President Donald Trump had a "heated" phone conversation with European leaders after a "coalition of the determined" meeting in Paris.
According to Bild
Donald Trump accused EU countries of buying Russian oil, which in turn helps the Russian war machine .
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen allegedly tried to counter by saying that EU oil imports have dropped significantly since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
At the time of the conversation, Trump was told that only Hungary and Slovakia import oil from Russia.
U.S. presidential special envoy Steve Whitkoff noted that Europe buys Russian oil products through India.
When Trump turned the conversation to the topic of sanctions against Russia, representatives of EU countries offered to send their delegates to Washington within 48 hours to create a working group on sanctions against Russia. Whether Trump agreed, however, remains unclear.
Leaders from several European countries met in Paris on Sept. 4 to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine. They include German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
