What does that mean?
U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order returning the U.S. Department of War to the United States.
The White House reports.
"We won World War I, World War II and everything before and in between," he said during the signing of the order.
The executive order is expected to require all executive departments and agencies to recognize and use these additional names in internal and external communications.
Trump will also direct Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to recommend measures - including legislative and executive actions - to permanently change the name of the U.S. Department of Defense to the U.S. Department of War.
Pete Hegseth changed the description of his X page to "Secretary of War Pete Hegseth."

Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have repeatedly expressed a desire to change the name of the Pentagon. Trump has stated that the current definition of "Department of Defense" does not fit "the realities and America's role in the world."
Trump's supporters argue that the move would help position the military more honestly and could become a symbol of "America's new strength," as the U.S. military department was really called the "Department of War" until 1947.
At the same time, opponents warned that the renaming would only emphasize the aggressive image of the United States and aggravate relations with allies and opponents.
What is known about the U.S. Department of War
After the creation of the United States, the main military body was the Department of War, founded in 1789. It was responsible for directing ground forces, national defense and military operations.
The name reflected the then understanding of the functions of the army - the direct conduct of war against external or internal enemies. The Navy was subordinate to a separate Department of the Navy, so the structure was separate.
After World War II, in 1947, the United States undertook a major security reform. Instead of the Ministry of War, they created the Department of Defense (Department of Defense), which united the Army, Navy and new air forces.
The change of name had a symbolic meaning: it was emphasized that the main purpose of military structures is not aggression, but the defense of the state. It was then that the Pentagon, as a headquarters, became known in its current meaning - the center of management of US defense policy.
