The U.S. Treasury Secretary has already spoken to Ursula von der Leyen on the subject.
A group of European officials will discuss with U.S. officials on September 8 various forms of economic pressure on Russia, including new sanctions.
Associated Press reports Associated Press citing a source. According to the publication's interlocutor, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent spoke yesterday with the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on the topic.
The publication noted that U.S. President Donald Trump is becoming increasingly frustrated with his inability to end the war in Ukraine. He has tried in vain to convince Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to come to the negotiating table with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
It is notable that Trump was going to impose sanctions against Russia back in the summer if there was no progress in ending the war in Ukraine, but never imposed them, and instead held a summit with Putin in Alaska on August 15.
