The second Russian tanker carrying liquefied natural gas has arrived in China in recent times.

According to the agency, the Russian gas tanker Vostok was anchored near an LNG terminal at the port of Teshan in China's southwestern Guangxi province. The Russian-flagged tanker carrying a cargo of 150,000 cubic meters of LNG was loaded at the Arctic LNG 2 plant in Guidan in northern Siberia on July 19.

This is the second cargo from the sanctioned project to be delivered to China after the Arctic Mulan, which is also under sanctions, arrived at the Beihai LNG terminal in late August.

Production from the Arctic project began in December 2023, but gas deliveries are behind schedule due to a shortage of ice-class gas carriers and Western sanctions.

Arctic LNG 2, 60% owned by Russia's Novatek, was supposed to be one of the country's largest LNG plants with a target capacity of 19.8 million tons per year, but sanctions have dampened its prospects.

It is noted that two more tankers carrying Russian gas are now moored on the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia's Far East, while a third is in the South China Sea between Taiwan and Hainan Island.
