The Atlantic: The World Is No Longer Taking Trump Seriously

The U.S. has been sidelined.

Leaders of Russia, as well as China and North Korea, have been eyeing current U.S. President Donald Trump for nearly 10 years and have concluded that he is not worthy of their respect. This was reported by The Atlantic on September 5.

In an article titled "The world no longer takes Trump seriously," the publication notes that a military parade in Beijing, where illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un gathered to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War II, showed this. The American president was not invited.

China's military might was on display just weeks after Putin visited Alaska and rejected Trump's requests to end Russia's war with Ukraine. According to The Atlantic, the Alaska meeting was a humiliation for Trump.

Trump's relationship with the other two leaders has not gone well either. Xi Jinping has positioned China as a new symbol of international stability and responsibility. He defiantly offered a partnership to rival and former enemy India after Trump imposed 50 percent duties on that country.

In turn, the North Koreans have continued to move toward a nuclear arsenal that could surpass that of Britain in a few years, the publication said. Trump was confident that he could reach a deal with Kim Jong-un, but it appears that is not the case, the publication said.

Trump reacted to his exclusion from the event in Beijing as the third-tier leader that Xi Jinping, Putin and Kim Jong-un seem to think he is, the article said. He only tried to hide the offense and joked on his social media page, sending his "warmest wishes" to Putin and Kim Jong-un, who he said are plotting against the United States. He also demanded that China recognize the valor of Americans who died in the Pacific. The publication called this message "the grumblings of a man tormented by complexes". In parades and in the halls of world power, America has been sidelined, The Atlantic noted.

It's not just authoritarian leaders who see Trump as an incompetent leader, the article said. Even America's allies in dealing with Trump to achieve their goals flatter him and pad his ego.

The damage Trump has done to American prestige would be less severe if the president had a foreign policy and a team to implement it. He has neither, the publication writes. Worse, Trump is no longer surrounded by people who care about foreign affairs or who can develop coherent policies.

As The Atlantic writes, Trump ran for president not to solve U.S. problems, but for personal reasons - to avoid prison. His foreign policy is merely an extension of his personal interests - his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

The publication notes that the current U.S. administration has no coherent foreign policy, no team of highly qualified professionals running national defense and diplomacy, and the president has little interest in the world. "It is no wonder that the three autocrats gathered in Beijing, whose countries collectively can point hundreds of nuclear weapons at the U.S., can afford to act as if they don't think one bit about Trump or the country he leads," the article says.
