Flights at Vilnius airport were suspended due to an unidentified object.
NATO mission fighter jets were deployed in the skies over Lithuania on the morning of September 9, and flights were halted at Vilnius airport for half an hour.
This was due to an unknown object that was moving from the direction of Belarus towards the Republic of Lithuania, it was recorded on radar. One version says it was a meteorological phenomenon.
Around 8:30, Oro navigacija relayed information about the object to airport services, Delfi reported. According to the National Crisis Management Center (NCMC), the decision to close the airport was made on the basis of security measures.
At 9 o'clock flights resumed, and, as the NCMC notes, the flight schedule was almost unaffected.
It is reported that the radar systems of the Lithuanian Air Force also recorded an object, which allegedly moved from the territory of Belarus towards Lithuania. The signal was briefly seen on the radars of ground air defense, but there was no visual contact with it.
The fighters of the NATO Sky Patrol mission were involved in the interception. But after arriving in the specified area, they found nothing. They were immediately recalled.
A preliminary version, it may be a meteorological phenomenon, but the relevant services promise to conduct a more detailed investigation.
